Cold clear tailwater of the White River in Arkansas with Ozark hills in the background

Arkansas

White River & Norfork Tailwaters

Overview

About This Destination

The cold tailwater releases from Bull Shoals and Norfork dams have created one of the most productive trout fisheries in the central United States. The White River below Bull Shoals regularly produces trophy brown trout over 20 inches, including genuine record-class fish. This is year-round fishing at its finest — mild winters, no ice, and trout that are conditioned to pressure and selective about their food.

Ozark hill country, clear Ozark streams, hardwood ridges, pastoral farmland, and the wide, cold, deliberate flow of the White River through its valley.

What to Expect

  • Trophy brown trout in an overlooked southern tailwater
  • Year-round access with mild winter temperatures
  • Drift boat and wading options on diverse water
  • Sulphur hatches that rival any spring creek in the country
