Clear Himalayan river in Bhutan flowing past a Buddhist monastery

Bhutan

Eastern Himalayan Rivers, Bhutan

Overview

About This Destination

Bhutan is the least-visited fly fishing destination in the world for good reason: access is strictly controlled, permits are expensive, and the fishing is reserved for those willing to make the effort. The rivers of Bhutan — the Paro, Wang, Mangde, and Manas — flow from Himalayan glaciers through pristine subtropical forest and are home to substantial populations of wild golden mahseer and snow trout, two of the most exotic freshwater quarry in fly fishing.

Eastern Himalayan foothills, ancient Buddhist monasteries on river cliffs, subtropical broadleaf forest, glacially fed rivers of blue-green water, and rice terraces on the valley walls.

What to Expect

  • Some of the most exotic freshwater quarry in fly fishing
  • Essentially unfished wild rivers with zero angling pressure
  • Deeply spiritual cultural experience alongside the fishing
  • Pristine Himalayan ecosystems with extraordinary biodiversity
  • Private access permits to waters not available to independent travelers
