Spring creek winding through limestone bluffs in the Wisconsin Driftless Region

The Driftless Region

Wisconsin & Minnesota

Overview

About This Destination

The Driftless Area is a geological anomaly — a swath of southwestern Wisconsin and southeastern Minnesota that was bypassed by the last glaciers, leaving a dramatic landscape of spring-fed valleys, limestone bluffs, and coldwater creeks that run clear and cold year-round. It is home to some of the finest wild brown trout fishing in the Midwest, with dozens of named streams and hundreds of miles of public water. This is our home water, and we know it intimately.

Unglaciated karst terrain, limestone bluffs, spring-fed limestone creeks, wooded coulees, pastoral farmland, and sandstone outcroppings that give the region a quiet, almost European character.

What to Expect

  • Dozens of named spring creeks with wild, self-sustaining brown trout populations
  • Technical dry fly and nymph fishing on intimate water
  • Exceptional hatches including Sulphurs, Pale Morning Duns, and Trico
  • Minimal angling pressure on private and lesser-known public reaches
  • Stunning pastoral landscape that feels untouched by the modern world
