Clear Himalayan river in northeast India with forested foothills in the background

India

Himalayan Foothills & Arunachal Pradesh, India

Overview

About This Destination

India's Himalayan rivers offer fly fishing that is genuinely unlike anything in the rest of the world. The mahseer of the Cauvery, the golden mahseer of the Himalayan foothills, and the snow trout of the high Himalaya represent three completely different freshwater fly fishing experiences in a country of staggering natural and cultural diversity. The Western Himalayan rivers of Himachal Pradesh and the remote rivers of Arunachal Pradesh in the far northeast are the current frontier.

Himalayan foothills with sal and teak forest, high-altitude mountain rivers above the treeline, subtropical jungle river valleys (Arunachal), and the ancient, layered landscape of the Indian subcontinent.

What to Expect

  • Remote Himalayan rivers with essentially no recreational angling pressure
