Angler casting in a clear Patagonian river with Andean peaks behind

Patagonia & New Zealand

Southern Hemisphere, Argentina / New Zealand

Overview

About This Destination

The rivers of Argentine Patagonia and New Zealand's South Island share a common characteristic: crystalline, gin-clear water over pale gravel, and wild trout that have seen almost nothing. These are sight-fishing destinations in the truest sense — you watch the fish before you cast, study its position and mood, and deliver a fly with precision. The rewards are enormous. The fish are large, the scenery is staggering, and the experience is unlike anything in the Northern Hemisphere.

Glacially carved valleys, Andean peaks (Patagonia) and Southern Alps (NZ), braided rivers over white gravel, beech forest, steppe grassland, and in New Zealand, remote mountain rivers accessible only by helicopter.
